Project Football just not enough against Fall River Lincoln Club attack.
Project Football traveled to Atlantis Charter Field in Fall River on Sunday August 18th to open up their 2024 Fall UPSL campaign against Fall River Lincoln Club. PF led by head coach Daniel Struk and technical assistant Elvir Celikovic looked strong in warmups. Coming out in its typical 4-3-3 formation PF was captained by last year's leading goal scorer Juan-Camilo Hernandez and a very strong attacking squad.
With many new faces in the starting XI it didn't take much time before the boys got the ball moving. With plenty of possession and a strong attacking mindset the turnovers in the middle of the park resulted in goalkeeper Engst-Mansilla having to come up with 9 saves in desperate attempts to keep his squad alive.
Being down a goal around the 37th minute, Project veteran Christopher LaFonatine took a nasty foul in the midfield and resulted in him having to leave the pitch. Goalkeeper coach and club director Jonathan Langlois was issued a red card after a brief spat with the center referee. Project Football was forced to make a change substituting in last year's Project "X" Player Darc Keyri who slotted in to help stimey the Lincoln attack.
Walking into the second half, Project's game plan was to take it minute by minute and get one back to even. After a tricky ball slipped between the hands of Engst-Mansilla the game looked out of reach. A few substitutions made, looked to respark the attack down the wings but just wasn't enough. Lincoln was able to kill any hopes of an attack after a third goal was scored and the game resulted in a 3-0 loss to open the Fall campaign.
Project Football's home opener is this Sunday against Connecticut's Southwest FC at Captain John Bertram Field located at Powder House Lane, Salem, MA. Gates open at 6:30pm kickoff is at 7:00pm. Cost of tickets are just $7/adult $5/under16.
